Memorial Weekend

We traveled to Southwest Kansas this weekend for a wedding and were able to spend some time with Great Grandpa Arthur and Grandma Jean. Braylon stole the show, performing all of his new tricks. He even learned some new tricks. Here he is doing his "so big" trick Grandma Jean taught him. Or is he dancing to YMCA at the reception??

Once we got home, we enjoyed the beautiful weather and played outside with the dogs. Charlie sure did miss his little pal.

On Monday afternoon, we met up with some friends for a barbecue. Braylon enjoyed spending some time with his friends, Tristan and Riley.

They chased and popped bubbles, climbed trees, rode the rocking horse and provided lots of entertainment for the adults.

10 months

That's right, our little guy is 10 months old! It seems that this past month has flown by. Before we know it, we'll have all of our friends and family over to celebrate Braylon's first birthday! In celebration of the past ten months and in anticipation of all the exciting adventures that are yet to come, I leave you with this excerpt from the book entitled "Someday" by Alison McGhee and Peter H. Reynolds:

One day I counted your fingers
and kissed each one.
One day the first snowflakes fell, and I held you up
and watched them melt on your baby skin.
One day we crossed the street
and you held my hand tight.
Sometimes, when you sleep, I watch you dream,
and I dream too...
Someday your eyes will be filled
with a joy so deep that they shine.
Someday you will swing high- so high,
higher than you ever dared to swing.
Someday you will call a song to the wind,
and the wind will carry your song away.
Someday I will stand on this porch, and watch your arms
waving to me until I no longer see you.
Someday you will feel a small weight
against your strong back.
Someday, a long time from now, your own hair
will glow silver in the sun.
And when that day comes, love,
you will remember me.

Good "Clean" Fun

After a hard day of play, Braylon and his friends Tristan and Riley enjoyed a bath together. Braylon was a bit confused when he was asked to share his bubbles!

Before I Was A Mom

This was shared with me by another new mom and it really hit home for me. It's amazing how much our little miracles bring to our lives!

Before I was a Mom,
I never tripped over toys or forgot words to a lullaby.
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never been puked on. Pooped on. Chewed on. Peed on.
I had complete control of my mind and my thoughts.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held down a screaming child so doctors could do tests or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom,
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put him down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom as much as I do.

Before I was a Mom,
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that special bond between a mother and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel
so important and happy.

Before I was a Mom,
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes
to make sure all was okay.
I had never known the warmth, the joy, the love, the heartache, the wonderment
or the satisfaction of being a Mom.
I didn't know I was capable of feeling so much,
before I was a Mom.

Playing Around

Here are a few pictures and video of Braylon having some fun with different props from around the house. He seems to enjoy these items more than his toys sometimes!

Tubular

Is that even a word? I'm not sure, but it was difficult to come up with a "catchy" title for this post. Yes, you guessed it, we have tubes! Braylon had his 15 minute procedure done this morning at 7:30. The doc said that although we had just completed a 10 day course of antibiotics, Braylon still had double ear infections when he went in to insert the tubes today. We are hopeful that this will provide some relief to our little guy. I've only heard positive things from other parents whose little one's have had the surgery recently. Braylon was a champ this morning and is doing well this afternoon. We're taking it easy at home today and will likely take him to childcare tomorrow so he can tell his friends all about his visit to see Dr. Dinsdale and all the other nice people wearing those funny hats and masks.
